Art and Graphic Design
Art and Graphic Design
The UNI Department of Art is large enough that you can have experiences in a wide variety of artistic media, yet small enough that you won’t get lost in the crowd. You will learn from professors who are not only great teachers, but also successful artists, designers and scholars with national and international reputations. Sixteen full-time faculty members bring their real world experience back to the classroom!
Art students at UNI begin taking courses in their major during the very first semester. This exciting set of classes introduces fundamental skills in visualization, analysis and production that will prepare you for more specialized study in upper-level courses.
The Friday Symposium provides information on career options. Guest speakers include successful graduates of our program and professionals working in all fields associated with the visual arts and design.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
All computers in the Art Lab are replaced every other year and software is updated regularly. From computers, kilns, presses and cameras to gear for welding, woodworking and metal fabrication, we have the tools and equipment you will need to make your vision a reality. |
The Department of Art annually hosts 30 visiting professionals in all areas of art and design, offering lectures, workshops and critiques. As a student you get to work closely with these guests and start building your professional network. |
At UNI, our goal is for you to succeed in the field. All first-year students attend a weekly symposium on career options in the arts and design. Juniors and seniors can take courses that cover building a resume and preparing a portfolio. We host an annual Portfolio Night for our graphic design students and have ample opportunities for you to connect to professional organizations in the arts and education. |
